1. Sensors to avoid obstacles
The first and one of the biggest differences between these two drones is that the new DJI Mini 3 does not have sensors to avoid obstacles in front and behind as the Mini 3 Pro does.
This is something important if you want to fly your drone with complete confidence, although if you are an expert pilot, you know that many times you do not use these sensors, since you always take the necessary precautions and know how to maneuver between obstacles.
Another aspect that you should take into account is that in lateral flights, the Mini 3 pro will also be exposed and you should be careful when flying that way.
2. Landing sensors
Other sensors that have changed between these two mini drones are the landing sensors.
At the bottom of the Mini 3, you can see that it has two small sensors, but it no longer has the four sensors that the DJI Mini 3 Pro has, which gave your machine greater landing precision.
The difference between these two types of landing sensors only gives you greater precision when landing your drone.
For example, if you took off from a point, a drone with more sensors will be able to return to it with more precision using the landing sensors plus GPS, but the drone with only two sensors will reach the landing point with the help of GPS but its precision won't be as accurate.
The DJI Mini 3 may arrive at the starting point but it will land around that area and not at the exact point.
3. Follow me mode
Another difference, related to your drone's sensors, is the ability to follow you. As it does not have sensors, the option for the drone to follow you has been disabled in its software to avoid accidents.
The follow-me mode on the DJI Mini 3 Pro is very useful for getting good shots, whether they are parallel to or behind the target.
However, the Mini 3 has a dronie option that keeps focusing the camera on a single object as it slowly zooms away, giving you a few seconds of semi-parallel tracking, not quite the same but as close as it gets.
4. Point of interest and spotlight
The new DJI Mini 3 does not have these two options and the DJI Mini 3 Pro does.
These two options are used to focus on a single object and either circle it in autonomous mode or fly in any direction keeping the same object in the camera focus.
If you practice a lot you will be able to recreate the point of interest, in flight you need to direct the right stick of the joystick to the left and the left stick to the right slowly, this will make the drone fly laterally while rotating creating a circle around some point that you are trying to focus.
In the case of the spotlight function, it will be very difficult to recreate it since you would have to move the camera while going up, down or in any direction, but it can be done depending on what you want to do.
5. Hyperlapse Mode
This option allows you to create a fast-moving effect, the Mini 3 Pro has it, but the Mini 3 doesn't.
You can also recreate it in photo and video editing software by taking multiple photos every 5 seconds while moving and then blending the images together to create this same effect.
6. Differences in Quickshots
The only quickshot that the DJI Mini 3 doesn't have compared to the Mini 3 Pro is the asteroid.
This quickshot creates an incredible effect in which it zooms out and in the process creates a mini planet or asteroid, recreating the spherical panning effect.
7. Batteries
These two models of drones are compatible with the same type of batteries, but nevertheless, the new DJI 3 mini can last an extra 4 minutes since the machine is not spending as much energy in terms of sensors to avoid obstacles as the DJI Mini 3 Pro does.
By using these sensors, the Mini 3 Pro is always scanning its environment and making sure there are no obstacles, so the battery life on this one lasts a little less time.
For these two drones, there are two types of batteries, the normal one, which combined with the weight of the drone, adds up to 249 grams but weighs 80.5 grams by itself and takes around 64 minutes to reach its maximum charge, and the plus battery, which weighs by itself around 121 grams, combined with the drone adds up to around 289.5 grams and it takes 101 minutes to reach its maximum charge.
